It happens more than you may think; I then have to go on to explain (without sounding patronising) what this person really needs is an Interior Decorator, this will then no doubt follow-on with me having to further explain what the differences are between the two disciplines and try to steer them in an appropriate direction.
I don't blame these people for getting the two mixed up; the general public have been feed hours and hour of TV "instant" make-over programmes and continuous glossy magazine features all under the misleading label of Interior Design. Also this has prompted those in the Interior Decoration and Soft Furnishing business to elevate their tile to Interior Designers; again I don't blame them for doing this, it makes good business sense to up sell yourself. But the lines have become blurred as to what these two very different services offer - there is a market for the two approaches, but where confusion resides with the customer this has to be a bad thing!
So here with this Home Interiors - Client's Guide - series of articles I will address the key aspects for client's that have a Interior Design project in mind as to how they should go about searching for a Designer, what to look for, how they work and charge, how to get the best out of them and how a project gets off the ground to become a finished built reality.
ABOUT HOME INTERIOR DESIGN
Home Interior Design is not to be confused with Home Interior Decoration, as this tends to be only a skin-deep treatment to give a style change or "make-over" to a property. Home/Residential/Domestic Interior Design (whatever one may call it) is a much more fundamental approach to the way you live in a property and how a building can be made to work for the individual owners needs. This will not be just a coat of paint (some new curtains and cushions) it is likely to start with a in-depth rethink at how the property is planned and may involve some considerable changes put in place before one even thinks of decorations.

Interior Designers who specialize in Home Design can be viewed as Interior Architects, and their abilities should cover all aspects of building and architectural work to a property included minor/major structural alterations and building extensions etc. They will go on to cover all the "decoration" elements such as colours, finishes and furnishings, but this is not necessarily the starting point for a project. Be as open as you can as this forms an important foundation for any new design, remember that the Designer is designing for you and not for them, so they need to know how YOU tick!
For most Clients they really enjoy this consultation, as this may be the first time that they have truly thought about their life style and what they really need from the project, apart from a floor, walls and ceiling. A good Designer will have the talents of a "pick pocket", you will not know that so much information has been taken from you until you see the first concept design, and then you will realise that the smallest details have been included that reflects you and your life style.
HOW DO YOU FIND A GOOD DESIGNER
Personal recommendations are always good, but remember, the Designer has designed for the person who gave you the recommendation, so even if their project is not to your taste this does not necessarily mean that the Designer cannot design to your taste. If they were satisfied that the Designer produced a sound creative solution that matched their brief, then this Designer would more than likely be able to satisfy your project requirements.
Web Sites are a good way of looking at a Designers portfolio of work without making direct contact. Use the search engines and directories to track Designers that are within the broad area to where you live. It is no good having a Designer from Scotland if you live in London, and vice a verse, so aim relatively local of around a 50 mile search radius! Also be aware of companies that call themselves Interior Designers, but are really Home Furnishing companies and they are only really interested in selling from their shop or showroom. Offers of "free design service" will always have a sales agenda behind it. A true Design Consultant will be totally independent of any affiliated retail business and will use the global market to source what is right for your project, no commission or incentives involved.
Professional Bodies such as The Chartered Society of Designers have registers of designers in your area and can be contacted for a list. They also have a web site at you could visit. The Chartered Society of Designers is a body that vets individual designers to make sure they meet a professional standard, it starts with a student quantification "Diploma Member" and then "Member" (MCSD), and the highest level is "Fellow" (FCSD) and you should look for these qualifications or similar from your Designer.

Seorang Polisi Bersaksi Telah Saksikan UFO

Dokumen rahasia FBI yang pertama kali diterbitkan untuk publik mengungkap polisi Amerika Serikat (AS) menyaksikan UFO meledak di Utah pada 1949.

Pada 4 April 1949, agen khusus FBI mengirim kabel bertanda ‘mendesak’ pada direktur biro Edgar Hoover. Dokumen ini menceritakan tentara, polisi dan patroli jalan raya yang menyaksikan UFO meledak di atas pegunungan dekat Logan, utara Salt Lake City.

Memo itu merupakan bagian ribuan file yang sebelumnya tak pernah dirilis FBI namun kini dirilis dalam sumber daya online baru ‘Vault’.

Menurut Daily Mail, dokumen itu menyebutkan tiga orang tersebut ‘melihat benda berwarna perak tinggi mendekati pegunungan di Sardine Canyon’ yang tiba-tiba meledak.

Sebelumnya, sebuah penampakan UFO telah diselidiki di Logan di September 1947. Banyak saksi mengatakan pada FBI menyaksikan ‘cakram terbang’ dalam formasi ‘mengitari kota dari atas dengan kecepatan tinggi’.

Memo dari agen khusus yang bertugas di kantor lapangan Washington yang dikirim pada 1950 mengatakan, alien mendarat di Roswell, New Mexico, dengan piring terbangnya.

“Piring terbangnya digambarkan berdiameter 15 meter dan diduduki tiga badan berbentuk manusia setinggi satu meter," katanya.

Alien itu 'mengenakan kain logam bertekstur sangat halus dan dibalut dengan cara serupa saat uji pilot’. Roswell di New Mexico menjadi terkenal setelah laporan piring terbang jatuh di gurun dekat pangkalan militer pada Juli 1947.

Washington- Ditemukan fosil mengejutkan binatang bergigi tajam yang merajai wilayah barat Amerika Serikat, 200 juta tahun lalu. Ini menjadi spesies dinosaurus baru dalam lingkup evolusi.

"Fosil moncong pendek dan gigi depan yang miring itu milik Daemonosaurus chauliodus, dinosaurus yang belum pernah ditemukan sebelumnya. Hewan ini hidup di zaman Trias," ujar Hans-Dieter Sues dari National Museum of Natural History di Smithsonian, Inggris.

Penemuan tersebut dipublikasikan di jurnal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

Sues yang termasuk kurator paleontologi vertebrata di museum itu mengatakan, penemuan ini membantu mengisi kesenjangan infomasi soal evolusi antara dinosaurus yang hidup di Argentina dan Brazil sekitar 230 juta tahun lalu.

“Fitur dari tengkorak dan leher Daemonosaurus mengindikasikan bahwa hewan ini berada dalam titik tengah evolusi predator di kawasan Amerika Serikat,” kata Gugat.

Salah satu fitur itu adalah rongga di beberapa tulang leher yang berhubungan dengan struktur sistem pernafasan.

Daemonosaurus ditemukan pertama kali di Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, Amerika Serikat.

9 Pasukan Khusus yang Dimiliki Indonesia

1. Korps Brimob:

Brimob termasuk satuan elit dalam jajaran kesatuan Polri, Brimob juga tergolong ke dalam sebuah unit paramiliter ditinjau dari tanggung jawab dan lingkup tugas kepolisian.

2. Densus 88 antiteror:

Detasemen Khusus 88 atau Densus 88 adalah satuan khusus Kepolisian Negara Republik Indonesia untuk penanggulangan teroris di Indonesia. Detasemen 88 dirancang sebagai unit antiteroris yang memiliki kemampuan mengatasi gangguan teroris mulai dari ancaman bom hingga penyanderaan.

3. Batalyon raider:

Batalyon Raider adalah satu batalyon pasukan elit infanteri Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI).
Raider adalah kualifikasi prajurit Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI) yang dilatih untuk menguasai 3 kemampuan. Kemampuan tersebut adalah:

1. Kemampuan sebagai pasukan anti-teroris untuk pertempuran jarak dekat.
2. Kemampuan sebagai pasukan lawan gerilya dengan mobilitas tinggi.
3. Kemampuan untuk melakukan pertempuran-pertempuran berlanjut (panjang).

4. Kostrad Tontaipur:

Peleton Intai Tempur (Tontaipur) merupakan satuan elite Kostrad terbaru, diresmikan pada tanggal 4 Agustus 2001. Setelah latihan secara intensif selama lima bulan, 97 pasukan yang diseleksi dari Brigade Infantri 9 dan Brigade Infantri 13 Kostrad menjadi prajurit-prajurit pertama satuan elite ini.

Sesuai kualifikasinya, Tontaipur akan diterjunkan untuk misi pengintaian jarak jauh ke wilayah musuh dan melakukan penghancuran terhadap sasaran-sasaran penting. Diantara perlengkapan yang dibawa, mereka akan dibekali senapan serbu khusus berikut teropong bidik malam (NVG, night vision goggle). Tiap personel Tontaipur ini memiliki kemampuan operasi sekaligus di tiga matra, yakni di darat, laut, dan udara.

Uji coba pertama bagi Tontaipur adalah operasi penumpasan Gerakan Aceh Merdeka (GAM).

5. Phaskhas TNI-AU:

Korps Pasukan Khas TNI Angkatan Udara (disingkat Korpaskhasau, Paskhas atau sebutan lainnya Baret Jingga), merupakan pasukan (khusus) yang dimiliki TNI-AU. Paskhas merupakan satuan tempur darat berkemampuan tiga matra: laut, darat, udara. Dalam operasinya, tugas dan tanggungjawab Paskhas lebih ditujukan untuk merebut dan mempertahankan pangkalan udara dari serangan musuh, untuk selanjutnya menyiapkan bagi pendaratan pesawat kawan. Kemampuan ini disebut dengan Operasi Pembentukan dan Pengoperasian Pangkalan Udara Depan (OP3UD).

6. Kopaska TNI-AL:

Komando Pasukan Katak atau lebih dikenal dengan sebutan Kopaska didirikan 31 Maret 1962 oleh Presiden Sukarno untuk mendukung kampanye militer di Irian Jaya. Satu grup di Armada Barat di Jakarta, dan satu grup di Armada Timur di Surabaya. Tugas utama mereka adalah menyerbu kapal dan pangkalan musuh, menghancurkan instalasi bawah air, penyiapan perebutan pantai dan operasi pendaratan kekuatan amfibi.

Detasemen Jala Mangkara (disingkat Denjaka) adalah sebuah detasemen pasukan khusus TNI Angkatan Laut. Denjaka adalah satuan gabungan antara personel Kopaska dan Taifib Korps Marinir TNI-AL.

7. Kopassus TNI-AD:

Komando Pasukan Khusus yang disingkat menjadi Kopassus adalah bagian dari Bala Pertahanan Pusat yang dimiliki oleh TNI Angkatan Darat yang memiliki kemampuan khusus seperti bergerak cepat di setiap medan, menembak dengan tepat, pengintaian, dan anti teror. Prajurit Kopassus dapat mudah dikenali dengan baret merah yang disandangnya, sehingga pasukan ini sering disebut sebagai pasukan baret merah. Kopassus memiliki moto Berani, Benar, Berhasil.

8. Sat Gultor 81 Kopassus

Satuan 81/Penanggulangan Teror atau disingkat Sat-81/Gultor adalah satuan di Kopassus yang setingkat dengan Grup, bermarkas di Cijantung, Jakarta Timur. Kekuatan dari satuan ini tidak dipublikasikan secara umum mengenai jumlah personil maupun jenis persenjataannya yang dimilikinya, semua itu dirahasiakan.

9.Indonesian Customs:

Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai disingkat DJBC atau bea cukai adalah nama dari sebuah instansi pemerintah yang melayani masyarakat di bidang kepabeanan dan cukai. Seiring dengan globalisasi bea dan cukai mengenakan istilah CUSTOMS, dipersenjatai untuk menangkal masuk nya barang-barang larangan ke Indonesia!

"Kota Hantu". Ini bukan judul film atau cerita fiksi. Ini sebutan bagi kota-kota di Amerika yang sebagian besar rumahnya tak berpenghuni lagi.

Sejak krisis kredit perumahan melanda Amerika, jumlah warganya yang terpaksa menjual rumahnya atau disita bank karena tak mampu membayar cicilan menikat seperti derek ukur.

Menurut perkiraan 24/7 Wall ST, rata-rata 60% rumah di sejumlah kota di Amerika tak berpenhuni lagi. Dan kota-kota itu adalah kota besar. Mulai dari Florida, Palm Coast, Las Vegas, Cape Coral.

Di Lake County, Michigan, yang populasi rumahnya 14.966, sebanyak 66% diantaranya menjadi rumah hantu.

Di Wisconsin, ada Vilas County yang jumlah rumahnya 25.116 unit, 62% tak berpenghuni, disita bank atau ditinggal begitu saja karena tak bisa membayar cicilan.

Dulu kota-kota ini sangat ramai dan menjadi tujuan wisata, tapi kini kota itu hampir mati. Dulu kota-kota ini jadi semacam ikon dari semboyan american dream, tapi kini mimpi itu hilang ditelan badai krisis.

Jadi apa yang terlihat secara makro di Amerika baik-baik saja, perdagangan saham di Wall Street bergairah dan politik stabil, di tingkat mikro (main street) penderitaan akibat krisis finansial tiga tahun lalu belum lagi selesai.

189 Tahun Tergantung di Lemari Kampus [Mengerikan]

Mayat pembunuh yang dihukum mati pada 1821 itu akhirnya ditemukan tergantung di dalam lemari Universitas Bristol. Jasad tersebut akhirnya bisa dimakamkan dengan layak setelah tergantung selama 189 tahun.

John Horwood, nama pembunuh tersebut, dieksekusi pada 1821 setelah membunuh mantan pacarnya, Eliza Balsom, ketika ia berusia 18 tahun. Dia menimpuk Balsom dengan batu kerikil ketika Balsom sedang melintas di sebuah sungai di Bristol.

Mary Halliwell dan tengkorak John Horwood

Serangan Horwood sebenarnya tidak menyebabkan luka serius. Tapi, Horwood meninggal dunia setelah menderita infeksi ketika dokter bedah mengebor sebuah lubang di kepalanya untuk mengurangi tekanan darah yang terus keluar. Horwood pun akhirnya dinyatakan bersalah atas kematian Balsom dan kemudian dihukum mati.

Dr Richard Smith, yang melakukan operasi pada Eliza Balsom, menolak izin untuk mengembalikan jasad John Horwood ke keluarganya. Jasad Horwood akhirnya digunakan untuk keperluan pembedahan di Rumah Sakit Kerajaan Bristol (Bristol Royal Informary). Setelah pembedahan di depan 80 orang, Dr Smith menyimpan kerangka Horwood dan menaruhnya di sebuah display sebelum kemudian diberikan ke Universitas Bristol.

Mary Halliwell (67 tahun) akhirnya menemukan John Horwood dan memenangkan hak hukum atas jasad Horwood. Pada Rabu (13/4) ini, Halliwell akhirnya bisa menguburkan John Horwood layaknya orang yang meninggal dunia. Tengkorang John Horwood digantung di luar penjara New Bristol selama sejam sebelum akhirnya dikuburkan.

Berdasarkan riset pohon keluarganya, John Horwood adalah saudara laki-laki dari kakek buyut Halliwell.

Menakjubkan, Inilah Cahaya Gas Bintik matahari yang terekam NASA

Inilah gambar menakjubkan dari bintik Matahari yang memancarkan gas bercahaya. Percaya atau tidak, fenomena itu terjadi saat Matahari berada dalam kondisi tenang.

Gambar menakjubkan itu menampilkan sekelompok bintik Matahari yang bergerak di seluruh permukaan Matahari. Terlihat area yang bersinar di dekat horizon AR 9169, sebuah kelompok bintik Matahari yang terbentuk di siklus Matahari terakhir.

Yang menarik, daerah yang relatif dingin dan gelap masih memiliki suhu mencapai ribuan derajat Celcius.

Gas yang bersinar terang itu berada di sekitar bintik Matahari yang memiliki suhu lebih dari satu juta derajat Celcius.

Alasan soal suhu yang tinggi ini belum diketahui, tapi diduga berkaitan dengan medan magnet plasma saluran curya. AR 9169 melintasi Matahari, sebelumnya, pada September 2000 dan bertahan selama beberapa minggu.

Gambar itu diambil pertama kali oleh satelit Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE). Wajar, TRACE memantau meningkatnya gangguan di ruang angkasa karena Matahari mulai memasuki masa paling aktif dalam siklus 12 tahun. Siklus maksimum Matahari terakhir terjadi pada 2001, sering dikenal dengan fenomena badai Matahari.

Badai Matahari sebenarnya bukanlah hal baru. Gelombang elektromagnetik Matahari pertama kali diketahui astronom Inggris Richard Carrington pada 1859.

"Ini bisa membahayakan jaringan komunikasi telepon jarak jauh di beberapa negara," ujar pihak NASA. Bahkan pada 1989, badai Matahari menciptakan pemadaman listrik di seluruh Provinsi Quebec, Kanada.

"Where The Children Sleep", karya besar dari seorang fotografer James Mollison kelahiran Inggris. Ini adalah Foto kamar tidur anak-anak di seluruh dunia dari Amerika, Meksiko, Brasil, Inggris, Italia, Israel dan Tepi Barat, Kenya, Senegal, Lesotho, Nepal, China dan India.

Setiap pasang foto-foto ini disertai dengan kisah masing-masing anak. Difoto lebih dari dua tahun dengan dukungan dari Save the Children (Italia), "Where The Children Sleep" adalah foto dan juga sebuah buku pendidikan yang melibatkan kehidupan anak-anak di seluruh dunia.

1. Lamine (12 tahun, Senegal)

Dia adalah seorang murid di sekolah desa "Koranic school" (sekolah al-Quran), khusus untuk anak laki-laki. Ia berbagi kamar dengan anak laki-laki lainnya. Tempat tidur merupakan dasar bagi mereka, beberapa didukung oleh batu bata untuk kaki kasurnya.

Pada jam enam setiap pagi anak-anak mulai bekerja di peternakan sekolah, di mana mereka belajar bagaimana untuk menggali, panen jagung dan membajak ladang dengan menggunakan keledai. Pada sore hari mereka mempelajari Quran. Waktu luangnya (Lamine) suka bermain sepak bola dengan teman-temannya.

2. Tzvika (9 tahun, Israel)

Tzvika, tinggal di sebuah blok apartemen di Beitar Illit, sebuah pemukiman Israel di Tepi Barat. Ini adalah sebuah daerah yang terjaga keamanannya di 36.000 haredi (Ortodoks) Yahudi. Televisi dan surat kabar dilarang dari pemukiman tersebut.

Rata-rata keluarga memiliki sembilan anak, tetapi Tzvika hanya memiliki satu saudara perempuan dan dua saudara, yang tidur satu kamar. Dia dibawa dengan mobil ke sekolah. Olahraga dilarang dari kurikulum sekolahnya.

Tzvika pergi ke perpustakaan setiap hari dan menikmati membaca kitab suci. Dia juga suka main game yang mengandung unsur agama di komputernya. Dia ingin menjadi seorang "rabbi", dan makanan favoritnya adalah schnitzel dan chip.

3. Jamie (9 tahun, New York)

Jamie tinggal bersama orang tua dan saudara kembar adik dan kakaknya di penthouse di 5th Avenue, New York. Jamie bersekolah di sebuah sekolah bergengsi dan dia merupakan murid yang baik.

Dalam waktu luangnya ia mengambil les judo dan pergi untuk berenang. Dia sangat suka pelajaran keuangan. Ketika ia besar nanti, dia ingin menjadi pengacara seperti ayahnya.

4. Indira (7 tahun, Nepal)

Indira hidup bersama saudara, orangtua dan adiknya di dekat Kathmandu di Nepal. Rumahnya hanya memiliki satu kamar, dengan satu tempat tidur dan satu kasur. Saat tidur, anak-anak berbagi kasur di lantai.

Indira telah bekerja di tambang granit lokal sejak dia berumur 3 tahun. Keluarganya sangat miskin sehingga setiap orang harus bekerja. Ada 150 anak-anak lainnya yang bekerja di pertambangan.

Indira bekerja enam jam sehari dan kemudian membantu ibunya dengan pekerjaan rumah tangga. Dia juga menghadiri sekolah dengan harus menempuh 30 menit berjalan kaki. Makanan kesukaannya adalah mie. Dia ingin menjadi penari saat ia besar nanti.

5. Jasmine (4 tahun, Amerika Serikat)

Jasmine ('Jazzy'), tinggal di sebuah rumah besar di Kentucky, Amerika Serikat, bersama orang tuanya dan tiga bersaudara. Rumahnya adalah di pedesaan, dikelilingi oleh lahan pertanian.

Kamar tidurnya penuh dengan tajuk dan ikat pinggang yang telah dia menangkan dalam kontes kecantikan. Dia telah mengikuti lebih dari 100 kompetisi. Waktu luangnya digunakan untuk latihan. Setiap hari ia selalu berlatih di panggung dengan pelatihnya. Jazzy ingin menjadi bintang rock ketika ia besar nanti.

6. Keluarga Pendatang (Roma, Italia)

Rumah untuk anak ini dan keluarganya adalah kasur di sebuah lapangan di pinggiran kota Roma, Italia. Keluarganya berasal dari Rumania dan pindah ke Roma dengan bus, setelah mengemis uang untuk membayar tiket mereka.

Ketika mereka tiba di Roma, mereka berkemah di atas tanah pribadi, tetapi polisi mengusir mereka. Mereka tidak memiliki surat-surat identitas, sehingga tidak bisa mendapatkan pekerjaan legal. Orangtua anak itu membersihkan kaca jendela mobil di jalanan. Tak seorangpun dari keluarganya yang pernah ke sekolah.

7. Dong (9 tahun, Cina)

Dong tinggal di propinsi Yunnan di selatan-barat Cina dengan adik, orang tua dan kakeknya. Ia berbagi kamar dengan adiknya dan orang tua. Keluarga memiliki tanah yang hanya cukup untuk menanam padi dan tebu milik sendiri.

Dong ke sekolah selama 20 menit berjalan kaki. Dia sangat menikmati dalam menulis dan bernyanyi. Paling malam, dia menghabiskan satu jam mengerjakan PR dan satu jam menonton televisi. Ketika besar, Dong ingin menjadi polisi.

8. Roathy (8 tahun, Kamboja)

Roathy tinggal di pinggiran Phnom Penh, Kamboja. Rumahnya berada di tempat pembuangan sampah besar. Kasurnya terbuat dari ban bekas. 5000 orang tinggal dan bekerja di sini.

Pada jam 6 setiap pagi, Roathy dan ratusan anak-anak lain diberi kesempatan untuk mandi di pusat amal lokal sebelum mereka mulai bekerja, mengais-ngais kaleng dan botol plastik, yang dijual ke perusahaan daur ulang.

9. Nantio (15 tahun, Kenya)

Nantio adalah anggota dari suku Rendille di Kenya utara. Dia memiliki dua saudara laki-laki dan dua saudara perempuan. Rumahnya adalah sebuah kubah tenda seperti terbuat dari kulit sapi dan plastik, dengan sedikit ruang untuk berdiri. Ada api di tengah, di ruang tidur keluarga.

Tugas Nantio mencari kambing, memotong kayu bakar dan mengambil air. Dia pergi ke sekolah desa selama beberapa tahun, namun memutuskan untuk tidak melanjutkan.

Nantio berharap seorang Moran (prajurit) akan memilih dia untuk menikah. Dia punya pacar sekarang, tetapi tidak biasa bagi seorang wanita Rendille untuk memiliki beberapa pacar sebelum menikah. Pertama, ia harus menjalani sunat, seperti kebiasaan.

10. Joey (11 tahun, Amerika Serikat)

Joey tinggal di Kentucky, Amerika Serikat, dengan orangtua dan kakak perempuan. Ia secara rutin menemani ayahnya di perburuan. Dia memiliki dua senapan dan panah dan pertama kali membunuh rusa pada usia 7 tahun.

Dia berharap untuk menggunakan panah selama musim berburu berikutnya karena ia telah merasa lelah jika menggunakan senapan. Dia mencintai kehidupan luar ruang dan berharap untuk terus berburu menjadi dewasa.

Keluarganya selalu memasak dan memakan daging dari binatang yang mereka dapatkan dari berburu. Joey tidak setuju bahwa binatang harus dibunuh hanya untuk olahraga. Ketika dia tidak pergi berburu, Joey bersekolah dan menikmati menonton televisi dengan hewan peliharaannya, seekor kadal naga berjanggut, bernama Lily.
